CI in Action: Mental Health Support for Panhandle Veteran Family

On August 3, Panhandle Warrior Partnership (PWP) Case Coordinator Kenneth Thompson received an email inquiring about mental health support for Army veteran (2001-07) Kyle Boyd*. Mr. Boyd’s wife, Allison Boyd*, had shared her concerns about her husband’s mental health and history of drug abuse. PWP immediately stepped in to help coordinate local resources and connections for the Boyd Family.

After assisting with navigating the logistics and paperwork from the local VA hospital, PWP also helped Mr. Boyd find a local rehab facility that met his needs. He was initially denied their services, but Case Coordinator Thompson would not accept that. After a few more phone calls over the next few days, PWP was able to help Mr. Boyd advocate his case, and he was accepted. With Thompson’s help, Mr. Boyd received VA hospital assistance, access to a rehabilitation facility, as well as a marriage counselor for him and his wife.

After a few weeks, Mrs. Boyd told Thompson that things have improved and, thanks to PWP’s resources and support, her husband had been trying to get better. We at PWP know how difficult it can be for veterans and their loved ones to ask for help. We are proud to support the brave men and women like the Boyd family who take that step to improve their mental health and quality of life.
