Navy veteran (59-63) and Gold Star parent, Tracy Hattaway, was straightening his house when he had finally found a check from the VA that he had misplaced some months prior. The excitement soon diminished when it was determined that the check had expired. He immediately turned to the professionals at Panhandle Warrior Partnership (PWP) for help. Through the quick actions of the PWP case coordinator, Kenny Thompson, it was discovered that the VA had not sent the check directly, but it had been sent through a 3rd party organization supporting the VA.
Kenny was able to successfully navigate the red tape of the VA bureaucracy by coordinating a few 3-way phone calls to have the VA resend Mr. Hattaway a new check and also get him scheduled for a shingles vaccine. He will also be reaching back out to Mr. Hattaway to ensure the check is received soon.
Working closely with our elderly veterans and families often brings with it unique challenges. Mr. Hattaway not only calls when he needs something from us, but he calls just to check in and make sure that we’re doing okay. In the veteran nonprofit arena, we often forget that, just like the veterans we serve, we need a caring voice occasionally, too. We are delighted to serve such a caring gentleman in the thriving veteran community of the Florida panhandle.
With support from caring and passionate donors, Panhandle Warrior Partnership (PWP) continues empowering our community to empower our veterans. Please consider making a donation today to PWP. Your generous, tax-deductible contribution supports PWP's collaborative work across the Panhandle to meet veterans where they are, ensuring they are connected to all the resources and opportunities they have earned.
