Urgent Housing Support Provided for Veteran and Family Amidst Foreclosure

Michael Vega is a recently transitioned veteran (’10-’22) facing the threat of foreclosure. Unsure where to turn to provide a stable home for himself and his family, he looked to Panhandle Warrior Partnership (PWP) for support.

Michael served in the Air Force for over a decade before transitioning back to civilian life in 2022. Unfortunately, Michael had recently fallen on hard times in his post-service life and was unemployed, leading to heavy financial burden. He reached out to the American Red Cross, who put him into contact with PWP Case Coordinator, Kenneth Thompson. He informed Kenneth about his situation, and that his house can still be saved if he is able to catch up on payments. Knowing this, Kenneth immediately got to work on gathering resources to support Michael and his family.

Case Coordinator Thompson first entered Michael into America’s Warrior Partnership WarriorServe program, a technology to coordinate services for veterans across the country. Thompson then gathered potential resources available to Michael through the PWP network, including the Wounded Veteran Relief Fund, Career Source, and more. Thompson provided Michael with these resources and advised that he contact these resources quickly and that he would continue to check on him in the coming days.

Luckily, PWP’s contact at CareerSource was able to help Mr. Vega and his family right away. While the family is still working on getting assistance for other needs, they were able to obtain resources for the family’s water bill. They also provided Michael with a job opportunity and a bicycle to transport him to work. Currently, the agency is working on keeping his other bills afloat and supplementing them with groceries. Case Coordinator Thompson will continue to keep a line of contact with the agency and Mr. Vega to provide them with any support needed. Michael was incredibly grateful for the resources PWP was able to provide.

“We are fortunate enough to be moving in the right direction though thanks to you [PWP Case Coordinator Kenneth Thompson] and Mr. Williams [CareerSource Contact]. You all are phenomenal.” – Michael Vega, Air Force Veteran

Michael was incredibly grateful for the resources PWP was able to provide. It’s often difficult to pull yourself out of a deep hole, but PWP is proud to be able to support veterans like Michael to provide stability for him and his family.
